Things to Ponder….trending now on media

healthy Place

Mental Health, and spiritual well-being…how you treat yourself and others shape your reality. I am healthy, I am well, I am happy and so for the contribute to wellness as well as support the bodies innate ability to heal.
By the same token, respect for self, and self protection of the mind, body and spirit. Ensure that appreciation as oppose to expectation prevails, and that those around respect. These small gestures for “self” create your loving world.

Essential Oils and Vital Foods

Trending recently on social media – namely FB and LinkedIn are the importance of essential oils, and foods that offer benefit to vital organ function. is one valuable resource on the benefits of essential oils as part of a regimen to healing and well-being. These can be applied topically, in a bath, and some systemically.
It is essential (note the pun :))…that web-sites and information on web-sites or from bloggers are vetted and/or from a reliable source with evidence based research to prove the accolades and merits. On web-sites such as the Heart and Stroke foundation, medline, and others valuable information can be sourced on the benefits of foods as related to health and prevention. A list of important foods, or those that can be support healing can be induced or eaten in conjunction with prescription medication to support what the medication, natural supplement, or herbal/homeopathic is intended to achieve. The key is to determine cause, and then address with that which is provided naturally to help support.i.e. healthy fats support lipids which are necessary to support function. Such foods include avocado, olives, sardines ,salmon, nuts…etc.
For information on resources please reach out and we would be pleased to provide. On the board of the Rejuvin-Aging Association is Anjael Hebron, PhD a formulator, osteopath, homeopath, with several other notable degrees as well as other experts in their fields so we would be pleased to address. These questions can be health, product, or wellness related pertaining to any of the facets alone or in combination.

Choice then Intent, then Thought

Life is choice. The bodies innate response which we have written about in the past is to heal. When or if an incident occurs such as a stroke, there is a place for immediate intervention, and Rx to maintain stability and life. Many times, this can be a combination of prescription medication, foods, physio and lifestyle changes. There must be a cognitive decision and desire or intent to heal, and made manifest intentions or thought to be well. Dr Dyer and many have written about the power of intention…I am Healthy, I am Well is an example, followed and supported by foods, exercises, and whatever you prescribe or subscribe to….
In the process or journey, we move from an incident, into maintenance, then healing mode. For healing mode foods that support the medication, and lifestyle changes to support the healing process are a necessity.
To provide an example; anti-inflammatory foods where inflammation of vital organ function is diagnosed; alkaline foods in a system that has repetitive ulcers, detoxifying foods, water with lemon, and introducing foods with turmeric (curcumin), cinnamon, garlic if liver issues prevail. These are simply examples.
Natural, or minimally processed is best; not always marketing accolades and “labels.”
The process of healing is minimize risk, maintain (supported by a healthy food and activities, and a positive outlook and energy/will to heal.
Just recently I became a Reiki Master and Practitioner…there is a place for energy healing, and is accepted by the individual taking the necessary steps to heal. These steps are a combination of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and so forth.
One must also listen to their body, and choose the most appropriate course to minimize risk, and acknowledge that the road to well-being requires an integrated, knowledge based approach. Sometimes the knowledge comes from within.

This is also flu season, and within the last few weeks prevalent is an increase in sufferers of sinus issues, coughs, colds, runny noses and so forth.  Instead of opting for antibiotics, or  sitting at the Dr or clinics office only to be potentially turned away and instructed to buy an OTC “remedy.” There are several natural alternatives you can choose.  One is Basil tea, made with a bunch of fresh basil, about 10 cups of water to simmer, turmeric, garlic and ginger.  Drink with a few teaspoons of Manuka honey, and there are excellent antibiotic properties, anti-inflammatory that will also help to boost your immune system. Topically, apply eucalyptus oil, and opt for echinacea or oil of oregano in a small amount of water.

It is important to stress that there is a place for natural, as well, at times Rx for certain acute or chronic conditions; I choose to support natural when possible to allow the bodies innate response to healing to “kick in” if you well, and target the source of a condition.

In the next post I will address ailments, or conditions if you will such as CHF, angina, and hypertension, …foods that can help support Rx (lifesaving drugs) that are used to stabilize and foods that support natural healing.  For instance – chronic insomnia? There is valerian tea,….for increasing liver health; turmeric, cinnamon, milk thistle, dandelion are all good supporting herbs and foods.

New Medicine, Traditional Medicine

Rx v natural

New Medicine, Traditional Medicine
Co-Existence of the Two.

What is defined as traditional medicine and defined as new medicine depends on who you ask. In the pharma industry, professionals within the industry, and those providers often refer to Rx (prescription), OTC and similar to be traditional medicine, herbals, homeopathics and natural remedies non-traditional. Is that in fact a true categorization?
Nature, came before synthetics, and many prescription and OTC medicine or treatments have a component of natural or naturally derived ingredients. Technically, then, traditional is natural therapies, homeopathic, herbals, and therapies provided using same, such as Chinese Medicine, Eastern practices, spiritual well-being to “pre-treat” physical, acupuncture, homeopathy, and the like would be considered “traditional.” The new age or new medicine or “non-traditional” as direct comparators would be those classified as pharma, OTC or “pharmacy.”
According to the global market for herbal or natural medicines will reach USD 107 billion by 2017. This varies according to country and can be specifically researched at Regardless of the numbers, the fact remains that as a general trend, with a maturing demographic, and greater understanding of cause of ailments, increase in spirituality and mental health, as well as focus on treating the cause rather than the ailment or outcome individuals are choosing prevention and traditional natural means of combating or “treating” an ailment with the understanding that instant gratification achieved will not be a long-term “fix”, come without potential reactions, or address cause. This leads us to question Can their be a co-existence of the two? And when is one more appropriate than the othe?
Most recently there was a significant amount of media attention regarding a young girl that required drug treatment at a cost of $360K per yr in order to live. The battle was an urgent one, and that which required immediate attention; success was achieved in providing the necessary help and Rx but not without a battle. In instances such as this case, and other similar cases prescription drugs are required to immediately facilitate a change, but does it end there and should it end there? The next steps to ensure long-term effectiveness and sustainability would ideally be a diet rich in nutrients or effective natural supporting treatments that would improve quality of life over the long-term, and hopefully seek to rectify cause. This is a very specific example. Cancer treatment? Is the best choice removing the cancer and then radiation treatment or chemo?…and if so is that a long-term resolution or does that simply remove and rectify as oppose to prevent? It undoubtedly is not long term as I am sure each one of us reading this post knows of re-occurrences either directly or indirectly. Is natural more a prevention or treatment, and pharma a treatment? The answers to these questions are both individual, unique and can be debated. Simply stated, new medicine does and can be used as an immediate treatment for an ailment or disease, so too can traditional depending on what is treated; source or outcome? The coexistence of the two used in knowledgeable collaboration for treating, rectifying and preventing at source is the ideal.
Under “street talk” is a very bold Shamanic post which was delivered just last week. There is truth to this statement, which examines the naturally occurring cause that creates conditions or illness. Whether it be anti-aging, prevention, or seeking treatment for an ailment, disease or condition, chronic or acute, regardless of the label treating cause should be the primary goal while minimizing risk and associated long-term effects.
Organic, may not be effective, natural most likely is not 100% natural, parabens in their entirety cannot be avoided in daily product use (systemic or topical), and regardless of the accolade or label efficacy and outcome should be the primary objectives. With that said, what is a cosmecuetical, nutracuetical and why is it not recognized by regulatory bodies?

Perspective and Perception

Perspective and Perception….

…of Natural, Rx, OTC, healing and associated wellness.

I could probably write a blog a day; however my insight(s) and knowledge are never limited to just a few lines so I would be writing throughout the day, every day.  My time is largely spent transferring Intellectual Property, advising on launch or expansion, strategy and tactics so it is simply not achievable without neglecting someone. The purpose of this blog is to relay to you a fraction of this knowledge to help you make wise decisions, based on what is best for you, and all aspects associated  with you.

This post is largely based on two or three inter-related topics; one driven by the image you will see under “street talk” which is the general, recent perspective and perceived value of Pharma or Rx, the driving force of both perspective and perception on reality, opinion, and ultimately behavior whether that be buying or acceptance, and the social media impact on all of these “topics.”

Perspective is what drives people’s opinion, and one can argue that perception is their reality.  If I made the bold statement that natural is not 100%, and organic is an agricultural accolade, with Rx masking an ailment, and finally – parabens are in almost everything.  Even honeysuckle is a natural paraben or preservative; your perspective may change, or you may consider altering perception of what is “good” v “bad” and perceive importance based on those statements.  Regardless of what drives your thought process the most important element in the journey to wellness should be very simply – choosing products or services that facilitate positive change.

Whether it be any of those associated and related “elements” they are all dependent (in most instances) on choice, and information relayed to you which influences choice.  The current impact of social media, broad spectrum and finite (niche marketing) is altering both perspective and perception to influence change or buying behavior.

Social media impacts. The messages conveyed to audience members often differ, and influence.  This is obvious based on the shift from organic to natural, and the shift from choosing pharma to choosing products that address the cause, rather than create an effect.  It goes back to the last post – instant gratification (to some extent) to long-term beneficial change based on addressing cause. I.e. Botox™ v natural v natural with science, v systemic and topical choice related to change….and can be applied more to Viagra™ v natural even, less blatant, high cholesterol drugs v diet change and exercise …..the list can go on….beneficial “make-up”  to those with FDC colorants and toxins.

Social media, and the messages relayed on Facebook, Linkedin, twitter, Google – all drive perception of product and value, and the perspective of the target audience.

So for companies my recommendation is to ensure all messages are driven by objective, merits of the brand, and deliver on promise.  For consumers, ensure that regardless of the label; the perceived value and perspective that you have of the brand/company is in line with your personal wellness objectives.

Ultimately, we all have choice…and wellness is based on individual attitude, behavior and desire.

To your good health,

Christine Pemberton

** To stress my point on perspective – the graphic for this post is individual to each as to what they perceive….and perspective.  It is an ostrich egg, and depiction of symmetry.  For wellness, one must strive to achieve symmetry and balance.

Choosing Natural Rx, OTC or all for Treatment?

This post is largely based on fact, experience, knowledge and data obtained from medical and science oriented research/survey’s. In my “past life” I was a very successful consultant to the pharmaceutical industry. Today I consult with companies and people that have actionable services and products that facilitate positive change in the “wellness of management of aging” sector. The knowledge base is from helping launch Rx, OTC, herbal/natural and topical cares with an education of psychology, physiology and environmental engineering that examines the impact of toxins in our biosphere. With the advent of people seeking alternatives I now assist companies and people that are focused largely on prevention, wellness, science and natural based topical and systemic influencing areas.
Out of recent debate we “determined” that people often see from a single perspective which creates their perception. Perception and perspective are intertwined and affect decision making, all facets of thought and can influence outcome. Perceived value affects outcome; this is the so called placebo effect.
I, as well as others in this realm of natural, organic, alternative and pharma markets have often wondered how people treat conditions, disease and ailment. We have an educated, aging consumer seeking beneficial options. Is the first line of action for treatment of any ailment, topical skin issue or disease – chronic or acute condition; Rx, OTC or alternative whether it be herbal, homeopathic, or natural remedy? Is it a decision based on the type of treatment or largely desired outcome? Is the decision tree somewhat like Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs on self actualization, with outcome being a combination of many steps – Outcome the desired goal, and steps along the way to ensure positive results. If so, one would then go through various steps involving both natural, Rx, OTC, spiritual, physical, emotion, lifestyle etc to reach the outcome of success. This is really a simplified version of “whole” wellness striving to achieve outcome, and does not take into consideration many different chosen aspects or possible potential contraindications of natural, herbal, homeopathic with Rx that may or may not be part of the equation.

Research finds that most consumers seek some form of alternative therapy and choose natural remedies as part of the equation. They actively pursue natural topical or more natural topical cures and healthier natural and simple choices to ingest.
I absolutely welcome debate and comments, and will reinforce this post under “Street Talk” with references to search.
According to consumer reports when 45,601 consumers were surveyed online,…and I quote “we found that three out of four were using some form of alternative therapy for their general health. More than 38 million adults make in excess of 300 million visits to acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and other complementary and alternative practitioners each year in the United States.”
The choice is largely driven by the perception that although prescription drugs are a quick solution they predominantly mask an ailment or condition, whereas natural remedies treat source of ailment and ultimately rewards with positive outcome. When asked, the general perspective is Rx causes adverse drug reactions, natural cures long-term condition by addressing source. But, is that true? Drugs undoubtedly save lives, but many of our drugs such as aspirin, tamoxifen, vincristin, morphine, etc. are derived from nature. So does all stem from nature and involve nature?
Is the first line of defense Natural, take the perspective to treat cause, and target source of the ailment? In my opinion, it is best to seek cause and treat naturally, and affect positive change through dealing with the source of the issue or cause. I ask you to put some debate into whether choice should be natural or Rx – Is taking Viagra the first line of choice – it may be instant gratification (to some extent), but is it a better choice to deal with cardiovascular health and inflammation as well as associated causes such as stress to deal with the condition which may be temporary? Is a systemic drug to treat a physical outcome the best choice? Or should you address cause? For topical, sagging skin, which is an undesired physical change to aging is Botox a drug injection the best way to address the issue? Is it better to “treat” the physical change naturally with enzymes alone or in combination with scientific alternatives such as hyaluronic acid and argirelene with less negative effects to facilitate change? Do you choose Prescription or over the counter as a first line of action, or alternative remedy or natural treatment with the scientific evidence to support?
Please send comments to And we are very interested in understanding your opinions and choice.
To your good health
